Supporting you through each step of childbirth
We proudly welcome thousands of babies every year. Our experienced obstetrician-gynecologists (OB/GYNs) and labor and delivery teams work 24/7 with on-site, board-certified specialists so you can have the birthing experience you want.
What to expect
We personalize care to meet your needs, helping your delivery feel as natural, happy, and memorable as possible. Our team is equipped to offer opportunities for natural birth, epidural or a vaginal birth after C-section.
Birthing with us means having convenient access to the amenities needed for effective obstetrical care. Our facilities offer:
- Continuous electronic fetal monitoring — Feeding is constantly monitored either in person or at a central station by the charge nurse. Antepartum nurses are certified in fetal monitoring, neonatal resuscitation, and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS).
- Code Pink infant security system — Our system ensures the safety of your newborn by alerting us to any unauthorized movements.
- Labor and delivery rooms – Our hospital has 35 labor and delivery rooms, six operating rooms used for cesarean sections (C-sections) and a nine-bed post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).
- Maternal-fetal medicine specialists — These specialists can resolve serious complications, such as preterm labor, pre-eclampsia and placenta problems.
- Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) – Our intermediate and advanced NICUs allow us to offer the highest level of care for newborns born prematurely, critically ill or with serious health conditions. We offer 146 beds and a staff of highly experienced specialists across our units.
- OB emergency department (OBED) – With 13 private rooms, our 3,800-square-foot OBED provides advanced services to women who need special care during pregnancy. We'll help you manage all manner of conditions, such as the onset of labor, obstetrical and gynecological issues and surgical emergencies. If necessary, the OBED can provide direct admission to the hospital’s labor and delivery unit.
In addition to care for mothers during labor and delivery, we also offer classes for expecting parents, taught by certified and experienced educators.
C-sections
One support person may attend during the C-section, as long as you are awake for the delivery. The same person may join you in the recovery area. We offer mother-baby bonding in the PACU immediately after, so mothers can stay with their babies directly after surgery. Mothers and babies tend to enjoy this early connection, where you can recover with your baby in your arms.
Low-intervention births
We aim to create the most calming environment of care during each delivery. If you prefer an unmedicated or low-intervention delivery (sometimes referred to as a "natural birth"), we support that decision. If you are interested in trying alternative labor techniques instead of an epidural, such as birthing balls, various birthing positions, or massage strategies, we support that decision as well. Doulas are welcome, and our labor and delivery nurses are trained in many of the same techniques. We also provide wireless fetal monitoring, making it possible for you to easily move around the room while laboring.
Mother-baby bonding
After delivery, you need time to recover. We'll help you transition into your new life with postpartum support. As a Texas Ten Step designated hospital, we also make mother-baby bonding a priority, with specific breastfeeding policies and care practices in place. These policies establish that:
- All our postpartum nurses have completed numerous hours of breastfeeding education.
- Lactation consultants are available 24/7 to discuss beneficial breastfeeding techniques and to help you through those first few breastfeeding sessions.
- Newborns stay close to their mothers so they can breastfeed as soon as they are ready.
- We support rooming-in, where healthy babies and their mothers stay together day and night for bonding and care.
In most instances, you give birth and recover for a short period in the same room. During this time, we do all that we can to support breastfeeding success.
